Creativity is all about thinking outside the box. You need to experiment and look at how things are made, play around a bit and not be hindered by convention. That is how artists shape ideas into reality. They play with stuff. It is a great way to live and work. One of my favorite pieces is a playful mixture of a standard type of jewelry, a pendant, and some imagination. I call it the Pendulum Pendant.
A pendant is simply a hanging piece of jewelry. Pendant, if you look it up in the dictionary, simply means to hang downward, so in the jewelry business that translated into a loose hanging piece of jewelry. Pendants are often attached to a necklace or form a style of loosely hanging earings. Pendants are very popular and verstile pieces of jewelry.
A pendulum is a freely swinging weight that swings from a pivot. We’ve all seen them. Pendulum clocks were hugely popular in their time. Okay, I hear you. So what? What is the big deal. Well, you can take ideas from different artistic disciplines, like jewelry and clock making and fuse them together in a fun piece of jewelry. You do not have to be tied to conventions if you do not want to be. Along with all the events and occasions that call for jewelry, you can add fun and entertaining jewelry.
The Pendulum Pendant in the pictures on this page has a front stone that moves freely left and and right like a pendulum. I put a more transparent stone behind so when the front stone crosses the back stones path it grabs color from the front stone making for a unique and interesting play on color. The piece is a 5.6 ct Aqua gemstone or the back stone and a 1.2ct Pink Tourmaline. The pendant is 14kt yellow gold and needs to be worn as a choker for the effect to occur.
If you look carefully at the images you can see the change in color depending on the the location of the Pink Tourmaline gemstone in relation to the Aqua. A little extra dazzle!
Jewelry can be joyful creative and fun. And you can cap it all of with a catchy name like the Pendulum Pendant.
